Welcome to Butterflies Class

Welcome to Year 2!
Autumn term will be a busy one where we will be learning lots of new things across the curriculum. One of our main priorities will be handwriting as we get to grips with Kinetic Letters! The Snail and the Whale will be the stimulus for our writing and we will be writing our own adventures for the snail and the whale and perhaps for some other animals too! In Maths we will be working hard to develop our knowledge of number and place value and the four operations and applying this in different areas of our curriculum. Towers and Tiaras will keep us busy in our Topic lessons as we learn more about the Queens of our lives and times and in Science we'll try our hand at growing our own plants!
Homework will be sent home in folders every Wednesday to be returned by the following Monday.
Spellings sent home as part of your child's homework should be practised throughout the week ready for a spelling quiz the following week. We will be learning spellings that reflect the week's spelling lesson as well as key spelling rules children need to learn by the end of KS1.
Reading should be done as often as possible to support the children in building fluency and understanding. Please add a note to your child's yellow reading journal when you have read with them.
Our P.E. days will be Tuesday (core exercises) and Friday (Games, gymnastics, dance.) However, PE kits must be in school every day.
