At St Swithun Wells, we love to read and we believe that reading underpins children’s access to the curriculum and their achievement. From your child’s very first day at school they will experience books in many different ways: enjoying time in the book corner, to listening to stories being read to them, re-enacting stories through roles play, discussing stories, using books to find out new information and accessing our fabulous school library.
To be able to read, your child will need to be taught to decode words efficiently. As a school, we use Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised which is a complete systematic synthetic phonics programme. We follow their progression, planning and approach to teaching to ensure that your child learns to read.
