Key Stage 2
The curriculum places a greater emphasis on the acquisition of secure skills in English and maths and their application to a range of other curriculum areas. English, Maths, Science, PE and Games and RE are taught separately. ICT skills are taught as a discrete subject as well as the opportunity for children to apply ICT skills to other areas of the curriculum. Over the three terms of the academic year, each child has the opportunity to experience the full range of National Curriculum subjects, although during each term a specific subject from the National Curriculum may have a greater emphasis This means that, for example, a child may concentrate in one term on a history topic, then switch to a greater emphasis on geography in the next term. Art and DT are used to support other curriculum areas through the development of skills. Children are given the opportunity to direct their own learning through personal topics and develop a greater awareness of global issues through the themes that are taught.
