Welcome to KS1
KS1 is made up of Years 1 and 2 and builds on the great foundations to learning begun in EYFS. Because being able to read fluently is key to future learning much of the curriculum builds on early reading skills and phonics. Children are taught to use their phonics to help their reading and writing.
Children are also taught key skills in maths and develop their knowledge of numbers, how to calculate and how to use this knowledge to problem solve.
RE is taught as a core subject and the programme we follow reflects the Church's year. Children learn how Bible stories help us live our lives today by following the example of Jesus.
Throughout the year, children also learn about where we live and what other places are like and also find out about local history and the changes in our local area over time. They follow a full creative curriculum and have time to develop their physical skills.
