We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games Silver Mark Award for the 2022/23 academic year. The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
To celebrate the opening day of the Women's World Cup, throughout the day our children got involved in football related activities and were visited by representatives of AFC Stoneham who came to talk about women's football. The children were excited to get to meet England Beach Soccer player Chloe Marshall and ask her questions about her career. Some of the girls were also lucky enough to be presented trophies by Chloe for playing some fantastic football during the day!
Our Year 5 and 6 boys football teams participated in the 2023-24 North Eastleigh and Winchester football tournament at Kings' School, Winchester. Both teams gave a great account of themselves and showed some great team work, finishing in second and third place in their groups.
Our year 5 and 6 basketball team performed amazingly well at the North Eastleigh and Winchester School Games Tournament which took place at Thornden School. The team showed great character and resilience to finish in very respectable 5th place overall.
Our year 4, 5 and 6 girls and boys recently represented the school in friendly matches at St. Francis School. The boys and girls worked so well together as teams and showed great sportsmanship throughout their matches.
Our year 6 cricket team did amazngly well at the recent North Eastleigh and Winchester School cricket tournament, coming runners up. The children learnt quickly, played as a team, supported each other brilliantly and showed great sportsmanship. Many people commented on this during the day.
Our year 4 and year 6 swimmers did amazingly well when they took part in the recent Winchester Schools' Swimming Gala, which included swimmers from 23 local schools. Our year 6 boys did brilliantly well to come 2nd in the invitational float relay and our year 6 girls relay did a fantastic job, coming 5th in the mixed stroke race!
Our year 3/4 cricket team had a brilliant time competing in the North Eastleigh and Winchester cricket tournament at Ampfield Cricket Club. They played with smiles on their faces and displayed our school values consistently throughout the day, learning new skills along the way. They can be very proud of themselves.
When will we do this?
Every class will participate in this fun, social activity where at some point during the school day on Mondays, each class will get the chance to walk, run or jog, at their own pace for 15 minutes. There is no need for the children to wear PE kit especially for this.
Why are we doing this?
Physical activity during the school day has been shown to help improve focus in the classroom, as well as improve the physical and mental health of the children.
How can you help?
You can get involved in supporting this initiative at home too by encouraging the children to engage in exercise and encouraging their confidence in running.
Our new cheerleading club is amazing. The children are learning new moves and their balance and confidence is increasing every session! Thanks to Miss Wilkin for coaching.
