Following the guidance of the Bishops of England and Wales and as advocated by the DfE, RSE will be firmly embedded in the PSHE framework as it is concerned with nurturing human wholeness and integral to the physical, spiritual, emotional, moral, social and intellectual development of pupils.
It is centred on Christ’s vision of being human as good news and will be positive and prudent, showing the potential for development, while enabling the dangers and risks involved to be understood and appreciated at an age appropriate level.
All RSE will be in accordance with the Church’s moral teaching. It will also prepare pupils for life in modern Britain. We teach RSE through the Life to the Full Plus programme, by Ten Ten Resources.
The RSE curriculum is taught with sensitivity and based on the knowledge of pupils and their specific circumstances. To teach RSE the school will use TENTEN’s programme and resources “Life to the Full Plus” inspired by St John’s Gospel words of ‘I have come that you might have life and have it to the full’ (John 10:10).
This is a fully resourced programme of study in Relationship Education and PSHE for Catholic primary schools. The programme fully integrates the PSHE curriculum with the existing RHE programme. The programme adopts a spiral curriculum approach so that as a child goes through the programme year-after-year, their learning will develop and grow with each stage building on the last. As a result, the children develop their understanding of the topics more deeply as they grow older each year. Three aspects of RSE - attitudes and values, knowledge and understanding, and personal and social skills will be taught within the school’s programme of study.
Life to the Full has been approved by the Portsmouth Catholic Diocese.
